I believe that developing the skills, knowledge and feel to become your horse’s best teacher is something anyone can do. I want to support all my students to gain the confidence to try new things, and lose any fears of making mistakes. Regardless of what level we are riding at, we have never reached the end of the learning journey – there are always more steps to take.
I am also keen to stress that anyone, regardless of the horse they own, can develop these skills and gain this knowledge. Good horsemanship is good horsemanship, whether you own a small hairy cob or a large shiny Warmblood. I work with people and horses at their yards or home environments across Devon, Cornwall and Somerset. .
Lessons and clinics are designed to be enjoyable, informative and supportive of your and your horses' capacity to learn. I work with you and your horse 'where you are', but with the belief that any horse and rider partnership can achieve amazing things, if they focus on softness, balance and a logical approach to training
Demonstrations can also be arranged for your yard or riding club, and can be a combination of theory and practical application. They are always fun! Head and Heart of Effective Horsemanship is a partnership between myself and Mike Beard and brings together great horsemanship with the best of contemporary sports psychology. |
Rehabilitation
I am experienced in working with horses with physical issues, and can work with vets and equine bodyworkers to develop and implement a rehabilitation plan which is not dependent upon 'gadgets'. Understanding a horse's natural asymmetry, and any other significant physical issues he has, helps us to devise plans for what we need to do in hand, lunging and on the ground and under saddle.
